Aurora is Colorado's third-largest city and covers a lot of ground east of Denver, spread across Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas counties. Because it is so large, "living in Aurora" can mean very different things depending on which part of the city you're in.
North and central Aurora are the older parts of the city, with 1950s through 1970s ranches and bi-levels, plus the Anschutz Medical Campus, one of the region's largest employers. Southeast Aurora, out along E-470, is where most of the newer master-planned communities sit, including Saddle Rock, Southshore and Blackstone, along with the Southlands shopping center. Newer neighborhoods are also going up in northeast Aurora near Denver International Airport.
Aurora is split between school districts, so check the address. Most of north and central Aurora is in Aurora Public Schools. Much of south and southeast Aurora is in the Cherry Creek School District, and a few edges of the city fall into other districts.
Aurora Reservoir and Quincy Reservoir offer fishing and paddling, and Cherry Creek State Park sits on the city's western side. The city also runs several public golf courses and a long network of trails along its creeks and open space.
The R Line light rail runs north to south through central Aurora and connects to the Denver Tech Center. In the north, the A Line commuter rail stops at Peoria Station and at 40th and Airport on its way between Union Station and the airport. I-225 and E-470 handle most car trips.
