Parker is a Douglas County town about 25 miles southeast of downtown Denver. It began as a stagecoach stop on the trail into Denver, stayed small for most of the 1900s and incorporated in 1981. Most of its growth came after that, so the bulk of the housing is from the last 40 years, gathered around an older downtown that the town has kept.
Expect mostly single-family homes in subdivisions built from the 1980s onward, from 1990s two-stories to newer construction on the town's edges. Many neighborhoods have HOA pools, parks and trail connections. Larger-lot and acreage properties sit just outside town in unincorporated Douglas County, still with Parker mailing addresses.
Parker's Mainstreet is the historic core, with local restaurants, coffee shops, a few breweries and boutiques. The PACE Center nearby hosts touring shows, concerts and community theater. Parker Days, a June festival with rides, music and food, takes over the downtown area each year.
The Cherry Creek Regional Trail runs through Parker and continues north to Cherry Creek State Park and eventually downtown Denver. O'Brien Park sits near Mainstreet, and Salisbury Equestrian Park has horse arenas alongside sports fields. Rueter-Hess Reservoir, on the town's west side, is the area's large water supply reservoir.
Parker is in the Douglas County School District. Parker Road and E-470 are the main routes, and the drive to downtown Denver runs roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.
